Let me tell you about my shoes. They might look rundown and worn to you but to me they are more than that. When I look at them I remember every single significant thing that happened to me while I had them on. They have taken me places that I never imagined possible.
Five years ago in 2012 is when I first laid eyes on my babies. I was only a child then, still a teenager. And I had been dreaming for years to get myself a pair of my own with my own money. So when I was finally a university student, I took the plunge. I even remember which store I got them from, the Options store from Game City, its probably not even there anymore. My partner in crime, Attie, was there to share the experience. We had been preparing for this day for the longest time. With the little student allowance we received, we made the purchase. My very own Converse All Stars, you should have seen my face then. Even when I went hungry that month I couldn't complain because I knew that I had made the right choice, it was all worth it.
Since then, they have more than proved themselves worthy. At my friend's birthday party just weeks after I had just had my heart broken, they were there. The thought of rocking them with my red shorts was the only reason I was able to leave my room to attend that party. I was so proud then, finally wearing shorts in public for the first time and my reliable chucks tagging along for the ride. The party turned out to be just what I needed to pick me up from my depressive state. It was the very same shoes that I wore when I first found out that I had been accepted in the external placement program to study abroad. Yes, my beloved chucks crossed the oceans with me! Leaving them was never an option. When I boarded that British Airways flight, they were safely packed in my suitcase, ready to explore the world with me.
My bucket list of places to visit has always included London, it goes London, Paris, Milan, Rome and Corfu Island. And yes you guessed right, on my first official trip to London, my reliable chucks were there. Seeing Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, it had all been a dream before but it was actually coming true, before my eyes. One of the best feelings ever!
I have bought several more of the same type over the years, different colours of course but still the very first ones, my blue ones still remained my favourite. After graduation the very first real job I got allowed me to adorn my beautiful shoes on casual fridays. Let me tell you about my shoes, they might look like just shoes to you but to me there are more than that. It really is true after all,
Good shoes do take you to good places.
