Red and White

A lot of people who don't celebrate Valentine's Day reason that we should celebrate our loved ones everyday and not just on a particular day. Pardon me but I find this logic flawed. It's like saying Mother's Day shouldn't be celebrated because we ought to honour our mothers every day of the year.

In this day and age where we are too busy to even sit down and have a proper meal it is imperative that we set apart special days to reflect and celebrate our loved ones. Either through Mother's Day, Father's Day or even Valentine's Day. There are so many things going on in each of our lives, be it school, work, businesses, church that sometimes we unintentionally forget to appreciate our loved ones. This is where Valentine's Day comes in, its an opportunity to say , 'Even when I don't show it sometimes, I do appreciate your presence in my life.'

Another reason why people may not observe this day is because they are single. In countries like Finland and Japan, Valentine's Day actually celebrates friendship. So if you do happen to celebrate the love you have for your friends, you won't be alone. Back in primary school when this day approached, everyone was obliged to buy a card and chocolate sweets and then exchange them with the person they sat next to. Of course you could buy extra for your 'special somebodys' but at the end of the day everyone went home with a card feeling special. I think this was a brilliant idea. This is the 21st century, who says you can't buy your best friend a box of chocolates to appreciate them?

Even though this day has been heavily exploited by literally all the industries, it's purpose remains clear, a day to honour the special people in our lives who make life worth living. It doesn't have to be someone you have romantic feelings for.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY (in advance)!! And I hope you all honour the special people in your lives on this day.

Of Lockdown and All It's Other Unfinished Inmates

*Sigh*  It's been a while since I jotted down my thoughts on this blog, and by a while I mean years. I don't want to count them because I would probably start crying but I have had my reasons. The most significant one being that I became a MOTHER! Yes you heard right, I am responsible for another human being that is not me. And in the spirit of keeping my life compartmentalized, I started a mommy blog where I have been doing most of my writing. You are free to check it out here . Anyway back to my long awaited return. I am back because (yes you guessed it) we are facing a pandemic. I am of course referring to covid-19. Figures that the thing to bring me back to this blog would be a life threatening pandemic, I have always been dramatic like that. So yes, covid-19... It's Day 29 of the national lockdown (Botswana) and I have finally reached my breaking point. Let me break it down. I am fortunate to be one of those people who are still employed during this difficult time ...

Out of my comfort zone

For what I am about to share to make sense, I need to give you a bit of background information. I am what my friends call an 'activity slut'. Its kind of a harsh term but completely factual. I am the kind of person who participates in literally everything that I come across, be it charity organisations, school related projects, societies, etc. If I feel like I could contribute something to any project I do it, without any hesitation. I love working with people and trying to make the lives of people around me better and being involved in all these projects gives me the opportunity to do just that. I also do it for selfish reasons, I want to leave a legacy that will live on for decades after I have left this earth. I want to be remembered by each and everyone I come in contact with. What? I am only human! But one thing I never do is get involved in anything where I am uncertain about its success. All my moves are calculated, I only take part in things  I know for sure I will be...

The Diaries of A Lazy Person

Ever since I started my second year of University I feel like my brain cells have dramatically reduced in population. Everything is just so much more complicated and demanding and concepts are harder to grasp!! I know, I know, school is supposed to get more difficult with every increasing year but it still sucks!! I mean who came up with that logic anyway. Who came up with 'the recipe of success is hardwork'? I would really love to meet that person and give him/her a mouthful. Why couldn't life be simple? Why couldn't people be given the choice to do what they want and how they want it? For example, why can't I just wake up one day and say 'I wanna be a billionaire' and boom! the money appears? Why do I have to slave our away my whole entire life  just for a few years of satisfaction? Let's just think about this for a minute. You spend 12 years of mandatory school and then 3-6 years of university depending on your chosen degree. We are now up to 15-18 ...
